| 授業の目的 |
| This course will present British and American language and culture through the reading of literature and newspapers. Students will read two novels that are representative of British and American literature: abridged versions of `Emma' by Jane Austen, and `Little House on the Prairie' by Laura Ingalls Wilder. These texts provide insights into the respective language, culture and history of each country. Recordings of these texts will provide examples of the pronunciation of British and American English. Furthermore students will obtain a copy of the Sunday edition of the Daily Yomiuri, which contains excerpts from an American newspaper, The Washington Post, and a British newspaper, the Times. This will give students insights into contemporary issues in each culture. |
