目的
この授業では，「研究の素材」となりうるもの自体について学ぶというよりは，「素材をどのように研究するか」について示唆を与えてくれる研究書や理論書，論文を英語で講読し，研究テーマの設定方法や研究手法について学ぶことを目的とする．
概要
文芸，文化，文学などに関する批評理論を英語で読む．前期は， Harry M. Benshoff & Sean Griffin 著の Gender and American Film--How Men and Women Have Been Represented in the Hollywood Filmsを読み，アメリカ映画におけるジェンダーの表象について考える．なお，以下に示す授業計画は，おおよその進度の目安である．
注意
この授業を担当する教員の卒業研究指導を希望する学生は，必ず受講すること．卒業研究のテーマや題材は，この授業のテキストで扱うものと同じでなくても構わないが，文学，言語，文化について論文を書く際に応用できる内容なので，十分に参考にすること．また，卒業研究指導の学生には，別途時間を取って指導するので，そのつもりで受講してほしい．
